Feed the recording back out of the medium. I created a story that I fed through various scrambling programs, then tried to translate the sentences into coherent thoughts through Otter.ai, then used the results as the basis of my story (it most strongly influenced the writing of the letter).
Think of the radio. With the radio, there is the strange juxtaposition of intimacy and anonymity. You cannot see or touch the speaker, and so you can only focus on the sound of their voices and the contents of their words. This is how you interact with the "stranger" in the story.
Revaluation. No matter how well you think you know a person, there is never a guarantee that you know them truly or fully. Depending on certain actions or events, you will be forced to revevaluate them in a new way (whether positive or negative).
I have used 53 separate HTML pages to create this story.
I have used only 1 CSS page.
The first tool I used was Botnik and I chose the "love letters and nursery rhymes" voice. Clicking randomly, I created a random text that sounded like a love letter written by a drunk person.
I put in both "a love letter" and "nursery rhymes" into the generators, getting "let love rate" and "merry shy nurse" respectively. These phrases influenced the plot and setting of the story — the main character being a nurse and the stranger evaluating people's worth based on love.
Using the resulting text from Botnik, I put it through all three different programs. I then put all the text from the different programs together, and the results sounded a lot more threatening and menacing.
Using the text generated from the previous steps, I tried reading it outloud with Otter.ai, trying to make the text sound more coherent. I leaned into the menacing feel, and created something that sounded both adoring of the recipient but also a bit threatening as well.
